After completing high school, William - who is better known as Bill - attended Purdue University in West Lafayette to complete his bachelor's degree in Journalism. Following law school, Bill worked as the Deputy Attorney General under Lindley Pearson, gaining priceless experience for both his law career and future political aspirations. He also opened a solo practice and rented an office from the senior Haggerty partners. After noticing Bill's work ethic, Jay B. Haggerty recruited Bill to become a partner in the law firm. The firm became Haggerty, Haggerty and Maschmeyer in 1987.
Bill continues to have a positive impact on his community. He is a life-long member of the Friedens United Church of Christ and served on the board for several years. Bill has been a Republican Precinct Committeeman and is an Eagle Scout. He currently serves his third term as an elected member of the Franklin Community School Corporation School Board and Central-9 Career Center Board.
To relax, Bill spends time in his garden and is also an avid fisherman. He has also coached youth basketball, soccer and softball.
